Qingdao Daily Special Edition Focuses on the 2024 China International Consumer Electronics Expo: The New Display Industry is Fully Moving Towards 'New'
2024-10-22
Cutting-edge technologies are emerging, and the new display industry is comprehensively moving towards innovation.
Industry-leading companies have released significant new products, with iterative upgrades in laser display, flexible display, transparent display, and 4K/8K ultra-high-definition display, among other cutting-edge technologies.
A foldable and eye-protective 120-inch laser TV, the Xingguang S1 Max; a tablet computer that allows for 3D viewing without glasses; and a ceiling-mounted light projector that combines a projector, ceiling light, and speaker in one... On October 19, on the second day of the 2024 China International Consumer Electronics Expo, the display field showcased the ever-evolving technologies, products, and scenarios of 'newness' providing new ideas for the future innovation and development of new displays.
The new display industry is one of Qingdao's key industrial chains. Relying on Hisense Group, the "chain-master" enterprise, Qingdao has strengthened independent innovation in laser display and introduced a batch of leading projects, such as BOE. At this expo, Hisense, BOE, and other industry leaders showcased their flagship products based on cutting-edge technological research and development, demonstrating the charm of Qingdao's intelligent manufacturing.
Laser display achieves a breakthrough
Currently, the new display industry is developing toward cutting-edge technological directions such as full flexibility, micro-displays, and ultra-high definition. In particular, the user demand for exceptionally clear images drives laser display to become the most innovative display technology.
This year's expo featured a Black Myth: Wukong experience area. The fine hairs on the Great Sage's body and the sparks flying during battles look incredibly lifelike, thanks to display technology using lasers as a light source.

In this technological feast, Hisense, ranking first in the global market for 100-inch large-screen color TVs, showcased a variety of significant new products, including ULED ultra-picture quality TVs, laser TVs, AI TVs, and artistic TVs. Among these, the 110-inch UX, the 98-inch U7N, and the 120-inch Xingguang S1 Max 100-inch class large-screen TVs were a major highlight of the exhibition.
The Hisense 120-inch villa-style giant-screen laser TV, Xingguang S1 Max, showcased for the first time, easily solves the problems of large-screen TVs being difficult to bring home and the cumbersome installation process, thanks to its foldable design and screen weight that is only one-fifth that of a traditional 100-inch TV. The product is equipped with digital projection technology used by 90% of cinemas worldwide, has 110% high color gamut coverage, and accurately restores the original texture of movie images. Unlike the direct light source from traditional TV screens that can cause eye fatigue with prolonged use, Hisense laser TVs use reflective imaging technology, eliminating glare and reflections for a more eye-friendly experience, even with extended viewing. Tests by the China National Institute of Standardization show that the comfort level of Hisense laser TVs is more than 20% better than reading paper.
With the increasing consumer demand for the portability and diverse forms of electronic products, the new display industry continues to develop more advanced materials.
At the BOE Technology Group booth, cutting-edge technologies such as all-oxide OLED laptops, naked-eye 3D tablets, and 4K ultra-thin low-power VR were showcased. The naked-eye 3D tablet is the world's first to use a liquid resin prism scheme, allowing users to 3D-ify 2D display content at any time.
Qingdao Huaxin Jingdian Technology Co., Ltd. showcased new materials such as microcrystalline glass and sapphire substrates. Microcrystalline glass has advantages such as high temperature resistance, high strength, and high hardness and is used in Mobile phone screens; sapphire substrates, due to their anti-slip and wear-resistant properties, are widely used in watch screens, Mobile phone camera protective glass, touch keys, and back cover glass.
Applications accelerate expansion
From smart homes to in-vehicle windows, VR/AR, e-paper, and outdoor commercial displays, the Applications of screens as important interfaces for intelligent interaction are becoming more numerous, and the Size is increasing.
At the Wanguo Electric booth, the AI holographic transparent cabin attracted many visitors to experience it. A virtual person presented in a three-dimensional form on the transparent screen danced gracefully, as if in a real world. The AI holographic transparent cabin is an innovative application that combines artificial intelligence and holographic projection technology, using computer graphics and artificial intelligence algorithms to present a realistic digital person in a holographic projection device. "Currently, the product has been applied to banks, subways, corporate exhibition halls, and shopping mall interactive advertising." said Liu Guohua, general manager of Shenzhen Wanguo Electric Co., Ltd.

The education industry also provides broader market space for the new display industry.
BOE showcased a series of products such as the Yuanwang Learning Screen and Xiaoke Screen. Reporters experienced the Yuanwang Learning Screen and found that the product is similar to a "telescope," changing reading from close-range to long-range viewing. Besides being gentler on the eyes, the Yuanwang Learning Screen also has painting, online courses, and entertainment functions. "Parents are paying more and more attention to myopia prevention, and this product sold more than 30,000 units last year." said a BOE staff member.
In-vehicle displays, as a promising incremental market in the new display field, are seen by many display manufacturers as the next growth point.
Driven by automotive intelligence, the demand for large-size screens is growing. Not only are instrument panels and central controls increasing, but head-up displays, electronic rearview mirrors, and rear seats are also increasing the application of display screens. Relevant data shows that in the first half of this year, the global shipment volume of in-vehicle display panels was approximately 110 million, a year-on-year increase of approximately 11%.
Fierce competition in the projector market
Projectors are a rising segment in the new display field in recent years. Advantages such as high cost-effectiveness, portability, and small space occupancy make them more attractive to young users.
This year's expo introduced a projector zone for the first time, with projectors from Brands such as XGIMI, Dangbei, JMGO, Fengmi, Konka, and Lenovo all present and occupying prominent positions in the exhibition area.
XGIMI Technology showcased its newly launched intelligent eye-protection ceiling light projector, XGIMI Shen Deng Sunlight, which cleverly combines intelligent projection, full-spectrum ceiling lights, and home audio; JMGO brought its latest JMGO N3 Ultra projector and O2 Ultra 4K ultra-short-throw projector, with resolutions reaching the physical 4K level; the Fengmi T2 laser TV uses ALPD full-color laser display technology to easily achieve a 120-inch large-screen experience, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in a private cinema.
Reporters noted that the projector market is exhibiting "polarization," with both high-end products represented by lasers, three-color lasers, and 4K, and entry-level products priced at around 100 yuan. For example, an XGIMI eye-protection three-color laser projector is priced as high as 10,999 yuan, while the Dangbei sub-Brand, HIKU, launched the Q1, a 100-yuan flagship product, priced at only 679 yuan, which shows the intense competition in the projector market.
"Currently, the projector market is sinking further. The target audience for the HIKU Q1 is college students living on campus and graduates who have just started internships. It is suitable for use in bedrooms, living rooms, camping, or business trips." Xia Peipei, a staff member of Hangzhou Dangying Technology Co., Ltd., told reporters.
The biggest difference between laser TVs and laser projectors lies in their throw ratios. Laser TVs have very short throw ratios, while laser projectors require a certain distance. The JMGO N3 series laser projector features auto-focus, allowing it to project a 100-inch screen from just 1.9 meters away.
